A motion from the Victorian Opposition to ban face coverings at public assemblies and require protest registrations was recently voted down in the state’s parliament.

Shadow Minister for Police David Southwick introduced a procedural motion to introduce (pdf) the Safer Protest with a Registration System and a Ban on Face Coverings Bill 2025 on Aug. 13. However, it was voted down by the Labor-controlled Legislative Assembly.
