U.S. President Donald Trump said five players from Iran women’s soccer team are being “cared for” in Australia and that other team members are “on their way” to asylum in the country, according to a March 9 post on Truth Social.

The team came under protection after the final match of the Asian Women’s Cup against the Philippines in Australia the night before.
