Australia is one step closer to having a United States ambassador stationed in Canberra after President Donald Trump’s nominee, former Virginia congressman David Brat, was backed by a U.S. Senate committee.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee endorsed Brat’s nomination, sending it to the full Senate for a final vote.
