Canadian actor Mike Smith, who plays the character Bubbles on the show “Trailer Park Boys,” has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident that took place in 2017, court documents indicate.

Halifax Regional Police charged Smith, 53, with sexual assault on Oct. 2 for an incident that allegedly took place on Dec. 30, 2017, Nova Scotia court documents say. Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.

The documents do not include further details of the allegations, which have not been proven in court.

Smith has been ordered not to communicate with or visit the workplace, home, or school of the alleged victim, whose name has not been released, the documents say.

Trailer Park Boys Incorporated posted an official statement to Instagram on Nov. 9, saying it takes the allegations “seriously.”

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the statement reads. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved.”

The statement says Trailer Park Boys Incorporated will not comment further on the case, “out of respect for the legal process.”

“At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities,” the statement says. “We remain focused on delivering the long-awaited 13th season for our fans.”

Trailer Park Boys Incorporated announced in August that it had finished filming 10 episodes for season 13 of the iconic Canadian comedy show. The new season’s launch is set to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary next year. The show has been airing since 2001.

Prior Incident

Smith faced a battery charge in Los Angeles in 2016 following an incident involving a woman at a Hollywood hotel. However, the misdemeanour domestic battery charge was dropped a month later.

The Los Angeles City Attorney decided to not pursue the charge “due to a lack of sufficient evidence,” the attorney’s office said at the time.

Smith had denied any wrongdoing in a written statement shortly after his 2016 arrest, saying the woman involved was a friend of his and they were having a “loud and heated dispute” but that he didn’t assault her.
