Toronto police say they have arrested one of the country’s 25 most wanted fugitives who was being sought on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching parole.
Before going on the run, he was serving a five-year, five-month, and 10-day sentence for discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent, robbery using a restricted or prohibited firearm, and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
Officers also allegedly located a firearm, extended magazine, and ammunition, the TPS said.
Police say Singh is facing six firearms related charges, including possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm, possessing a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited type without a licence, possessing a prohibited or restricted weapon or prohibited device without authority, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing a loaded regulated firearm, and possessing a firearm with an altered serial number.
Singh was expected to appear in court in Toronto on Nov. 22, the TPS said.
Singh is the second fugitive on BOLO’s latest top 25 list to be apprehended since the list was released in October.
The BOLO program is a not-for-profit initiative that raises awareness about Canada’s “most wanted” fugitives so that the public can be on the lookout for these individuals.
At any given time, tens of thousands of arrest warrants are outstanding in the country, the program’s website says, noting that while the vast majority are for minor offences, hundreds of those warrants are for major crimes, such as murders, sexual assaults, and crimes against children.
