Sydney and Melbourne have held onto their positions in the top third of this year’s annual Global Power City Index (GPCI), according to a study that evaluates the urban competitiveness of 48 major cities.

However, with Melbourne, at 13th, and Sydney, at 15th, both have failed to regain the rankings they held before the COVID-19 pandemic, when Sydney placed 10th and Melbourne 11th in 2019.
