For those looking for a thrilling summer adventure for all ages, Golden in British Columbia offers an opportunity to see the mountains from a new angle—or two.

The area boasts the Golden Skybridge, Canada’s highest suspension bridge, which stretches over a canyon that’s encircled by the Columbia Valley. From the bridge visitors can see the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges, and the bridges and trails are open to all, according to the website.

The Golden actually features two suspension bridges. The highest is 130 metres high and 150 metres, while the second is 80 metres high and 140 metres long.

The Skybridge area offers a variety of other activities to get the heart pumping and adrenaline going, including a zipline, rock wall, and a mountain rollercoaster.

Zipline

Ride across the canyon on a 300-metre (1,000-foot) zipline that takes you more than 150 metres in the air. Adventure views include the rushing river and waterfall directly below. And it’s not a thrill you need to experience on your own. With four zipline tracks, family and friends can get in on the ride.

Climbing Wall

An eight-metre-high rock climbing wall presents a fun challenge for all ages and has easy, moderate, and difficult routes. Climbers can have races to the top as the wall has six available spots. Challenge family or friends to a test of skill and speed.

Railrider Mountain Coaster

Celebrating the railway history of the area, the coaster is a kilometre-long ride through the trees and mountain terrain. Not for the faint of heart, the coaster travels along the canyon edge, curving and turning as it winds toward the bottom of the hill in a 73-metre descent. It takes approximately five minutes to complete the ride.

Axe Throwing

A game of skill to test accuracy and strength is available for those 16 and older in the axe-throwing area. With four lanes available, participants can challenge each other to see who is best at throwing hatchets at a target.

Canyon Edge Challenger Course

Walk across the canyon suspended 12 metres in the air in the ultimate test of bravery. Three different courses are available, including a child’s course.

Canyon Swing

Thrill seekers can free-fall over the edge of the canyon attached to a bungee cord. Once the bungee begins, riders can soar and swing over the rugged terrain just below.

If heights are not your thing, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy at the Golden Skybridge, including food and drinks from The Village, a treetop play park for kids, or head over to one of the viewing areas in the park without having to walk over the bridge.

Live musical performances and night markets will also be running throughout the summer and are included in the cost of admission.

Cost

Admission is $45 for adults and $35 for children. An adventure pass is available that allows visitors to ride the roller coaster, the zipline, and the challenger course for $94 ($84 for children.) Golden Skybridge also offers the coaster pass, which is good for admission to the bridges and a ride on the coaster. It’s $70 for adults and $60 for children. Admission for the canyon swing is separate and costs $149 for solo rides and $99 for tandem.
Those who have purchased an adventure pass, coaster pass, or are participating in the Giant Canyon swing are advised to wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes. Sandals, crocs, and flats will not be allowed.

Food cannot be brought into the park. For those who choose to bring their own food, picnic tables are set up just outside of the park.
