President of Madagascar Flees Amid Coup Threat

The president was supposed to address the nation at 7 p.m. local time, but the speech was delayed after the military seized control of state-run media.

Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina fled the country on Oct. 13 after warning of an approaching military coup the day before.

Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, a member of the nation’s parliament, confirmed that Rajoelina had departed the island nation, but said his current location is unknown.
