A pregnant woman has been punched and kicked in the stomach during an attack at a suburban shopping strip, Western Australian police say.

The 35-year-old was taken to hospital after the alleged assault on Wednesday that started when a 51-year-old woman verbally abused the younger woman as she entered a Bentley grocery store.

“The abuse continued as the victim left the store until she was physically assaulted in the carpark,” a police spokeswoman said.

“The victim was punched in the face several times before being kicked in the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground.”

Police arrived soon after and arrested the older woman.

She was charged and will face Perth Magistrates Court on April 4.

The younger woman remains in hospital in a stable condition.
