Peruvian President Removed From Power for ‘Moral Incapacity’

Congress chief José Jeri has taken over as interim leader, becoming Peru’s seventh president since 2016 amid deep political turmoil.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte was ousted on Friday after Congress declared her “morally incapacitated” after a string of scandals.

On Oct. 10, political blocs presented motions for Boluarte’s removal on grounds of “moral incapacity.” Her tenure was due to end on July 28, 2026.
