Peel police have arrested and charged seven men from Toronto in connection with a deadly home invasion in Mississauga in 2024, following a lengthy investigation.
Police say four masked individuals allegedly entered the home and confronted the occupants, demanding money and valuables. One of the homeowners, Ruo Zhou Wei, 55, was shot during the confrontation and later died in the hospital due to his injuries, Peel police said.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later identified as a white Volkswagen Atlas, Peel police said in the Feb. 2 release.
Investigators from the police force’s Homicide Bureau carried out a “complex and lengthy” investigation, which involved “extensive canvassing across more than 80 kilometers, forensic analysis, and judicial authorizations,” police said. The investigators identified the suspects and others believed to be involved in the case.
Police charged Sonam Wangchuk, 25, Muhammad Rahimullah, 21, and Tenzin Lama, 21, each with second degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.
Three more men, Kang Lu, 69, Kwok Chik, 65, and Xi Chen, 64, were each charged with manslaughter. Tenzin Jungney, 21, was charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, possession of property obtained by crime, and several firearms-related offences.
Milinovich also said the investigation is an example of “the great work we can accomplish when we are properly resourced, finding criminals, holding them accountable, and making sure they’re brought to justice for their actions.”
Crimes of this nature cause “profound and lasting trauma for families and undermine our community’s sense of safety,” he said.
“This investigation reflects the dedication of our officers and the critical support of our government partners in ensuring investigations like this are properly resourced and those responsible for horrific crimes are held accountable,” he added.
The Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario supported the investigation, which was funded by the provincial government, Peel police said.
