A 20-year-old man has faced court for allegedly impersonating a Chinese police car and carrying multiple firearms and fraudulent documents.

NSW Police arrested the man after discovering the vehicle bearing the Chinese-language wording for “Chinese police,” and, “public security.”

At around 2:50 p.m. on July 18, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Everton Road, Strathfield—home to a large Asian community—when they spotted the black Mercedes Benz sedan.

They immediately conducted an inspection. The user of the vehicle was near the car at the time and allegedly showed them a forged ID document and disability pass.

The man claimed that the vehicle was used for transporting officials from the Chinese consulate.

During a search of the car, the police discovered a box containing 48 rounds of ammunition in the trunk.

The man was promptly arrested, and the ammunition, along with several items suspected to be used for impersonating a police officer, was seized. The man claimed that he believed the trunk was the “best place to store ammunition.”

Police later entered the man’s residence in Baulkham Hills, where they seized two gel blasters and other registered firearms. They further reviewed his firearm license.

The man was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with an array of offences including displaying emergency service insignia, driving a motor vehicle with unlawful police insignia, and using false document to influence exercise of public duty.

The man was also charge with not having approved storage for ammunition, providing false or misleading information, possessing unauthorised firearms, and not displaying his P plates.

The man has been refused bail, and the case was heard at Burwood Local court on July 22.
