A couple caught on dashcam attempting to disarm one of the Bondi Beach mass shooters has been confirmed as Boris Gurman and Sofia Gurman, two of the victims of the terror attack on Dec. 14.
The alleged mass attackers, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, opened fire on people gathered for a Jewish Hanukkah festival around 6:45 p.m. local time. The incident is the worst mass shooting in three decades since the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre.
The two men tumble onto the pavement, and the man in purple appears to gain control of the weapon while Sofia stands nearby.
Boris then gets on his feet, gun in hand, and motions towards Sajid, seemingly trying to keep him at a distance.
The struggle happened a few metres from the footbridge where the shooting took place and next to a hatchback, which appeared to have an ISIS flag draped over the front windscreen.
Later, drone footage of shows the two bystanders, now motionless, laying next to each other where the struggle occurred.
The footage was initially uploaded to Chinese social media app RedNote (Xiaohongshu).
“Jenny,” whose dashcam captured the video, said she initially heard three loud bangs, which she mistook for fireworks.
She said she saw a man in his early 20s standing on the footbridge.
“He was no more than 6 metres or 7 metres away from me.”
In another video, Sajid appears to fire in the direction of where the couple had been standing before moving onto the footbridge. The footage’s revelations come as footage of Sydney shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed went viral which showed him sneaking up to, tackling, and wresting a gun from one shooter.
al Ahmed is now in hospital with multiple bullet wounds.
