More than half of Canadians say they will be staying home rather than travelling for the Christmas season, according to a recent survey.

The survey, conducted jointly by research company Narrative Research and data collection and market research business Logit Group, found that 58 percent of Canadians said they were staying home for the holidays, followed by 18 percent who said they would travel locally for the season, and 11 percent who said they had plans to go to another city or province.

Those over the age of 55 were the ones most likely to stay home, while millennials were most likely to be travelling within Canada for the Christmas season, according to Narrative Research.

The survey also found that those with higher household incomes were more likely to be travelling internationally.

Ontario residents were most likely to be travelling locally to celebrate the holidays, according to the survey results, while those in B.C. were most likely to be staying home rather than travelling.

The online survey was conducted between Dec. 9 and 15 with 1,233 participants, Narrative Research said.

Canadians may not be travelling far, but one Canadian city has received recognition for being among the top 10 global destinations for Christmas, according to PrivacyJournal, a VPN provider.

Quebec City was the only North American city to make it into the top 10 list of “Best Christmas Tour Destinations,” which analyzes data from Tripadvisor and Kayak to compile the list.

The Canadian destination was listed as number eight. It was preceded by London, UK, in the top spot; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Nuremberg, Germany; Zagreb, Croatia; Strasbourg, France; Prague, Czech Republic; and Budapest, Hungary.
