Ford, Ram, and Nissan are among several makes of vehicles that Transport Canada says manufacturers have issued recalls for this month over various safety issues including problems with braking and steering, as well as malfunctioning rearview camera display software.

Ford

Multiple recalls for several models of Ford vehicles were issued earlier this month over issues risking drivers’ safety, which were updated on May 23. The 2022–2024 models of Ford Expeditions were recalled over a reduced braking issue that may increase the chance of a crash. Ford also listed the 2022–2024 Navigator models of its luxury division, Lincoln, under the same braking issue recall.
The front brake lines on these models “may have been bent during engine installation,” resulting in possible contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, the recall says. This contact can cause the brake lines to become damaged, potentially leading to leaking brake fluid and a reduced ability to brake the vehicle.

“Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash,” the recall reads.

Ford also issued a recall the same day for its 2025 model of the F-150 pickup truck over steering issues.

“On certain trucks, the bolt used to attach the lower steering shaft to the steering gear may not have been tightened properly,” Ford says. A loss of steering control could result if the connection comes loose, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford issued another recall on the same day for the 2025 model of its Ranger pickup truck due an injury risk resulting from improperly secured driver’s seats.

The recall says that the bolt used to secure the driver’s seat in these vehicles “may be missing or may not have been tightened properly,” the recall says, adding that this could lead the seat to move or detach in a crash.

Ford will notify the 15,030 owners of the vehicle models affected by these recalls by mail, advising drivers to have their vehicles inspected at a Ford dealership and have the necessary work performed.

Ram and Nissan

Fiat Chrysler issued a recall on May 22 for the 2022–2025 models of Ram ProMaster cargo vans due to a software issue that could cause the rearview camera to not display an image when backing up the vehicle.
When reversing a vehicle, a driver’s ability to see can be reduced if the rearview camera display does not work, in turn increasing the risk of a crash, the recall says. The agency adds that Canadian regulations require the rearview camera image display to function when the vehicle is reversing.

Fiat Chrysler Canada will notify in writing the 17,910 Ram ProMaster owners affected by the rear visibility system recall, who are advised to take their vehicles to a dealership to “update the security gateway module software.”

Nissan’s 2025 Frontier and Kicks models have also been recalled over issues with the vehicles’ rearview camera image not displaying when the vehicles shift into reverse.

The Nissan recall, issued on May 15, says 13,547 vehicles are affected by this recall and that owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail to have their vehicles’ software updated at a dealership.

Audi

The 2022–2024 models of Audi Q5 SUVs were recalled by Volkswagen on May 7 over a potential oil leak due to loose cylinder head screws, creating the risk of a fire from oil leaking onto hot vehicle components, the recall, which was updated May 20, says.

Audi will notify the 16,863 affected vehicle owners by mail to have their vehicles inspected at a dealership and have the cylinder head cover screws tightened or replaced, if necessary, the recall says.
