A man has been arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a Jewish woman’s car and then harassing her in a separate incident two weeks later.

Detective Sergeant Chris Church of the Metropolitan Police said, “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who was just going about her day.”

A 55-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of arson and racially aggravated harassment.

The Metropolitan Police said the woman’s car was set on fire in Tottenham, north London, on Nov. 6 and then, on Tuesday, she was racially abused in the street.

Det. Sgt. Church said, “We simply won’t tolerate hate crime, and those who commit such abhorrent crimes will be prosecuted.”

He said: “While the victim in this case was not physically harmed, the effects of being a victim can be damaging and long lasting. We continue to support her and her family.”

Public Urged to Report ‘Hate’

“All reports of hate crime are taken seriously and I would like to reassure all of our communities that we have specially trained officers who investigate these cases with a view to taking robust action against offenders. If you encounter hate please do report it,” added Det. Sgt. Church.

There has been a huge rise in anti-Semitic attacks and other incidents since Hamas terrorists broke out of Gaza on Oct. 7 and massacred 1,200 people, including women and babies, in Israel.

Israel responded to the Hamas attacks by bombing targets in the Gaza Strip and then launching a ground invasion, which has sealed off Gaza City from the southern end of the territory.

The Hamas-controlled health ministry in Gaza says 13,300 Palestinians have been killed and another 6,000 are missing.

There have been weekly demonstrations in London against the Israeli military action, with up to 100,000 people attending, and a number of people have been arrested and charged with anti-Semitic offences.

Last month, immigration minister Robert Jenrick said visitors who are accused of anti-Semitic behaviour may be expelled from the UK, even if the alleged behaviour falls below a criminal standard
