Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Tuesday that his government “strongly protests” Russia’s decision to terminate negotiations on a peace treaty over Tokyo’s response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, calling it “extremely unreasonable.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday that Moscow was suspending peace treaty talks with Japan in light of the series of sanctions imposed against Russian leaders and financial institutions over the war in Ukraine.
