The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations has accused left-wing financier-activist George Soros of funding non-governmental groups that allegedly back Hamas terrorists and “seek the destruction” of Israel.

During an interview with Fox News Digital on Dec. 3, Israeli envoy Gilad Erdan said that for years, Mr. Soros—an American billionaire and Holocaust survivor who was born in Budapest to a non-observant Jewish family—has “backed and transferred money” to groups supporting the BDS movement that “want to isolate Israel.”

BDS is a Palestinian-led movement promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel.

“George Soros’ donations to organizations that seek the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state is shameful. However, I am not surprised,” Mr. Erdan told the news outlet.

Mr. Erdan said the non-governmental groups backed by Mr. Soros “have never been about real peace or any solution” to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza.

The New York Post reported on Oct. 28 that Mr. Soros’s Open Society Foundations have donated more than $15 million since 2016 to organizations behind the recent pro-Hamas protests in the United States.

The Open Society Foundations donated $13.7 million to the California-based Tides Center, whose beneficiaries include the Adalah Justice Project—which shared a photo on Instagram of a bulldozer tearing part of Israel’s border barrier on Oct. 7, the day Hamas launched its deadly attack on Israel.

In 2020, Mr. Soros donated $30,000 to Desis Rising Up and Moving, which co-sponsored a Bryant Park rally in which hundreds of demonstrators gathered to oppose Israel’s operations against Hamas in Gaza.

More than 1,200 people in Israel were killed in Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack. Hamas also took more than 200 hostages during the attack, which it is now using as bargaining chips in negotiations.

Israel has aimed its airstrikes at Hamas targets in Gaza and imposed a complete siege, cutting off the food, water, and fuel that it controlled in Gaza. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 11,300 as of Nov. 14.

The Israel-Hamas war resumed on Dec. 1 after a weeklong truce brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, during which Hamas freed 110 hostages in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.

‘Top Contributor to Democratic Party’

Mr. Soros was the largest individual donor in the 2022 elections, according to campaign finance data compiled by OpenSecrets. He made $178.8 million in federal contributions in the 2022 election cycle, all of it to Democrats.
Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk said in an Oct. 31 episode of Joe Rogan’s popular podcast that Mr. Soros “fundamentally hates humanity” and is undermining civilization.

“He is, I believe, the top contributor to the Democratic party,” Mr. Musk told Mr. Rogan.

“He’s doing things that erode the fabric of civilization,” Mr. Musk continued. “Getting DAs [district attorneys] elected who refuse to prosecute crime; that’s part of the problem in San Francisco, and L.A., and a bunch of other cities.”

“While I think San Francisco is a beautiful city, and we should really fight hard to kind of right the ship of San Francisco, if you walk around downtown San Francisco, right near the X/Twitter headquarters, it’s a zombie apocalypse,” Mr. Musk said.

San Francisco has been plagued by unprecedented levels of crime, drug abuse, and homelessness.

A number of companies, including Nordstrom, Whole Foods, and Saks Fifth Avenue, have left the area amid unprecedented theft and property crime in what some describe as a retail apocalypse.

Mr. Soros has ceded control of Open Society Foundations to his son, Alex Soros, who has pledged to be even more politically involved than his father.
