A security guard who was set upon and attacked at the March for Australia event in Melbourne has brushed off suggestions he could be a target at future marches.
Daniel Jones is a security specialist and Krav Maga instructor, as well as the chief instructor of Tactical Force Combatives.The 43-year-old also acts as a security guard for online reporter and commentator Avi Yemeni.
During the rally on Aug. 31, Jones was set upon by members of the National Socialist Network group, who’s role in the protest remains unclear.
Jones received some punches and was struck with a flag pole to the head, but he came away unscathed and is not worried about any possible future confrontations with the self-declared neo-Nazi group.
“Avi’s been a target for a long time. The attack on me was definitely very personal because at the Christian rally, I did have to take down a couple of aggressive people who were outed as neo-Nazis,” Jones told The Epoch Times.
“I’m not worried that we’ve got targets on our backs. I accept that we do. We take appropriate security measures in regards to that.”
Jones said Yemeni did not approach the neo-Nazi group on this occasion.
“They flew out toward Avi, and tried copy-catting what happened to the Nazis at the other [Christian] rally,” he said.
“They said, ‘This is our rally,’ but it wasn’t their rally.
“We said, ‘We’re not moving.’ And it did turn quite aggressive when they had numbers ... They were basically like a pack of hyenas.”
“We were forced to physically defend ourselves. I was forced to physically keep them away from Avi.
Jones said he and Yemeni received plenty of support from rally goers who came out against government policy on immigration, arguing that current numbers were not sustainable for the country’s infrastructure and services.
“A few members from the rally said, ‘Absolutely not–we are behind you boys. We’re not putting up with that rubbish.’”
National Socialist Network senior member, Thomas Sewell, and six other men have been charged over an alleged violent attack on the Aboriginal Camp Sovereignty after the March for Australia rally.
During the incident, a group of black-clad men were involved in a melee with the camp occupants.
Sewell has been denied bail and will need to contend with 21 charges.
“Avi is compiling video footage that he wants to take to the police of the assault. You can see where I got hit with the flag pole or stick a couple of times,” Jones said.
