Health Canada has issued a recall for hundreds of rowing machines due to a fire hazard.

Several models of NordicTrack rowing machines have been recalled by iFit, according to a Nov. 12 notice from Health Canada.

The agency said the machines’ screen consoles have the potential to overheat and ignite. Customers are advised to stop using the machine, unplug it and contact iFit for a free repair, which is a new screen console, Health Canada said.

The impacted machines are black, gray, and white, and have the brand NordicTrack printed in black letters on the front leg of the machines. The back legs of the machine also have RW900 printed in white letters, the recall said.

The affected machines include model numbers NTRW19147.0, NTRW19147.1, NTRW19147.2 or NTRW19147.3.

Customers can find the model number printed on a decal that is attached to the rower base, Health Canada said.

NordicTrack said that 700 of the impacted machines were sold in Canada between November 2018 and April 2022.

The company said there have been no reports of injuries in Canada. It received a total of eight reported incidents, including two reports of fire, and six reports of smoking or melting of the machines by customers in the United States.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the total property damage caused by the machines’ malfunction was “at least” US$6,000.

The U.S. recall notice said there were 44,800 units recalled in the country, in addition to the 700 recalled in Canada.

The machines were sold at several U.S. stores, including Best Buy, Dicks’ Sporting Goods, Nebraska Furniture, and ABT stores. They were also sold online at nordictrack.com and Amazon.com for about US$1,700.

Health Canada said the machines were manufactured in China.

The recall comes about a week after Health Canada issued a recall for exercise bikes over concerns of problems with the seat post that could pose a fall hazard.

The recall covers certain seat posts on the Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with model number PL02, and serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.”

The company said about 44,800 units were sold in Canada and approximately 833,000 were sold in the United States between 2020 and April 2025.

Health Canada said as of Nov. 6, the company had not received any reports of injuries in Canada, but the same brand of machine had received three U.S.-based reports of the seat breaking while being used.

Health Canada said the bike is four feet long and two feet wide with an adjustable seat and handlebar.

The brand name and model number can be found inside the front fork, behind the front fork, or behind the flywheel.

Consumers have been advised to stop using the machine and contact Peloton for a free replacement seat post that can be self-installed.
