Victoria’s Prahran MP Sam Hibbins has resigned from the Greens but says he will remain in Parliament as an independent after his relationship with a staff member was exposed. The 42-year-old is married and has two children.

But his behaviour has been condemned by Greens state leader Ellen Sandell.

“The Member for Prahran has completely lost my trust, and the trust of his Greens colleagues. [He] will never be welcome back in our party room,” she said. “I don’t think that he meets the standards of behaviour expected of any MP.”

“I want to say very clearly that I am angry. Everyone, especially women, deserves respect and safety in their workplace.”
