A Libertarian Party parliamentarian in New South Wales (NSW) has described “global boiling” as a mass delusion during a speech on climate change net zero legislation.

John Ruddick, who represents the newly branded Libertarian Party in the NSW Legislative Council, said there are probably 200 factors that influence atmospheric temperature and “today we understand few of them.”

Mr. Ruddick said global boiling is the “dream of the central planners” because it gives them “an excuse to amass power over all of us.”

“Global warming is more than a humorous delusion. It is the reason why this nation and most of the West have barely had any economic growth for 15 years. Along with COVID, it is why we are suffering inflation,” he said in a recent speech.

“We are embarking on ripping down a cheap and highly efficient energy supply that has powered our success and replacing it with an extremely expensive and highly dubious replacement: the renewables—which should be known as the unreliables.”

Mr. Ruddick said the science would progress over time but it was fanciful to think there is one atmospheric temperature control switch called carbon dioxide.

“Global boiling is a mass delusion. Mankind has been subject to many in the past,” he said (pdf).

The politician told The Epoch Times his speech on global warming received about 80,000 views on X (formerly Twitter).

He confirmed all state divisions and the federal division of the former Liberal Democrat Party are now known as the Libertarian Party.

“I am very pleased with the name.  It accurately reflects who we are.  The name will help market our message—some will hear about us, google Liberartianism and land on the Wikipedia entry which is reasonably good.”

Mr. Ruddick also said the election of President-elect Javier Milei in Argentina has increased awareness on libertarianism, adding “lets hope he’s a smashing success.”

Confirming the name change in a post to X, Libertarian Party NSW said on Nov. 27, “It’s official—we’ve got a new name.”
Debate on the Climate Change (Net Zero Future) Bill 2023 is set to continue this week in the NSW Parliament from Nov. 28.

The legislation sets greenhouse gas emissions targets and would establish a Net Zero Commission to review and report on these targets.

The Coalition, Greens, and some minor parties have now negotiated a 70 percent reduction by 2035 with the Labor government, but the Greens are demanding for this reduction in emissions to be “binding.”

Greens climate change spokesperson Sue Higginson said on Nov. 27, “The NSW government’s climate legislation is set to be debated tomorrow, there is still time for them to listen to the community and support the call to make all of the emissions reduction targets binding.

“On one hand we have a government that is saying they want to take action on climate by legislating emissions reductions targets, but is yet to commit to those targets by making them binding on Government.”

NSW Legalise Cannabis Party MLC Jeremy Buckingham said in a post to X, “We’re proud to have negotiated a 70 percent reduction by 2035 and a rachet mechanism to allow for more ambitions targets.”

“Congrats to Penny Sharpe on the Net Zero Bill to be decided this week,” he said.
