German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a European army on Nov. 13, backing French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments, which President Donald Trump last week called “insulting.”
Merkel insisted that an EU army wouldn’t undermine NATO, but her remarks to the European Parliament were met with a combination of applause and dissent.
