The winners have been announced in a contest held by Sunwing Airlines to recognize front-line workers who provide essential services during the pandemic.

In the Sunwing Celebrates Heroes contest, Canadians were asked to nominate front-line workers so they can be recognized for their efforts.

More than 14, 000 submissions have been received since the launch of the contest in June.

The 100 winners, which range from health-care professionals and emergency service providers to food service workers and law enforcement, will receive all-inclusive vacations to select Royalton Luxury Resorts.

“Reading the stories of our front-line workers has been inspiring.  They truly are heroes” said Samantha Taylor, the Chief Marketing Officer for Sunwing.

“We want to show our appreciation to these dedicated Canadians the best way we can, by making their vacation dreams come true and giving them a well-deserved getaway filled with much-needed rest and relaxation at Royalton Luxury Resorts.”

A few of the winners are: Doris Ho, an emergency room nurse in Toronto who worked two nursing positions and supported her live-in parents; Helene Kemp, who has been diagnosed with Leukemia, yet she still returned as a retired nurse to work at a retirement home in Montreal; and John Richardson, a truck driver, is one of the heroic winners, for his driving supplies across the Canada-U.S. border during the pandemic.

According to a press release, Sunwing, a Canadian family-owned business, has contributed to the pandemic response by bringing over 60, 000 Canadians back home during the pandemic, including 3,300 non-Sunwing customers from various destinations, as well as partnering with Second Harvest in Toronto to deliver over 46, 000 meals to food programs across Canada.
