Federal Government to Stop Housing Asylum Seekers in Hotels

The federal government says it will be ending its long-running funding of hotel rooms for asylum seekers this fall.

Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been housing asylum seekers in hotel rooms around Ontario and Quebec since 2017, a program that has cost around $1.1 billion.
