The European Union announced on Oct. 7 plans to double tariffs on foreign steel and cut by half the amount allowed into the bloc before duties apply, in a push to shield struggling producers from global overcapacity.
Industry Commissioner Stephane Sejourne said the new rules were meant to defend Europe’s steel plants and workers.
