CTV News reporter Stephanie Villella remains in hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle struck her while she was reporting on a car crash near Guelph, Ontario, on March 1.

“The CTV Kitchener team continues to send our thoughts and best wishes to our friend and colleague Stephanie and her family,” the media outlet said in a report on March 2.
The CTV videographer was collecting images of an earlier crash involving a transport truck and a sedan that took place at the intersection of Brock Road and Maltby Road, when another sedan hit her, CTV reported, saying that she was transported to a trauma centre with what police said were “serious and potentially life-threatening” injuries.

The incident occurred at around noon on March 1, when the police had already closed and barricaded the intersection due to the first crash. The driver remained at the scene after hitting Villella.

Some witnesses told CTV that the driver, who appeared to be elderly, came through the barrier and struck Villella while she was within the road closure area.
Ontario Provincial Police Constable Joshua Cunningham told the outlet that they are speaking with witnesses and examining evidence to determine what had happened. He said reconstructionists are at the scene to conduct the investigation, which may take time to complete.

There has been no word of charges being laid so far.

The injuries to the victim may determine what charges could be laid, according to Cunningham.

“In an investigation like this, sometimes we take a little bit of a moment at the onset to really determine what injuries—in this case what the extent of the injuries are to Stephanie—which could also play a part in what charges could be laid,” he said on March 2.
