Croatian police say they are searching for a small plane that went off the radar Sunday after taking off from the Adriatic Sea coast town of Split.

The Cessna 182 plane disappeared from the radar around 0925 GMT while flying in the direction of Germany, officials said.

It remained unclear how many people were on the plane.

About 70 members of the mountain rescue services were dispatched to the mountainous area near village of Rakovica in central Croatia.

There they joined teams from the police and army to search for the missing plane.

Their efforts were hampered, however, by adverse weather conditions.
