A New Zealand coroner has issued a warning about the risks of oral contraceptives after two women died from blood clots in the same circumstances in the same month.

A 24-year-old Auckland-based make-up artist, Georgia O’Neill, was found “unresponsive” in her bedroom on the afternoon of Sept. 20, 2021, after complaining that she was “not feeling well” and “had a lot of pain in her lower back” earlier in the day. Ms. O’Neill had sent a text message to her father and flatmate.
