A Canadian man was shot and killed during a golf trip in Wisconsin this week in what family members are describing as a drive-by shooting.

Giovanni “Mike” Robinson, 32, was fatally shot during the early morning hours of Sept. 24 in downtown Sheboygan Falls, the town’s police department said in a series of press releases. Sheboygan Falls is located near Lake Michigan’s west coast.

Robinson, who was originally from Stouffville, Ont., was found suffering from a single gunshot wound when officers arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead shortly after, despite the officers using “life saving measures,” Chief of Police Aaron Wigen said in the release.

Robinson was shot by an “unknown individual” and the motive behind the shooting is unclear, Wigen said, describing the incident as a “senseless act.”

Police are looking for a small, dark-coloured SUV in connection with the shooting, but have released little information about the incident to “maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.”

Police said they do not believe the victim and shooter knew each other.

Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and gather evidence, Wigen added, noting that no suspects have been apprehended as yet.

“The department is committed to utilizing all available resources to apprehend those responsible and hold them accountable for their actions,” he said.

Robinson had been living in Pennsylvania with his American wife with whom he had a baby girl this summer, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family. They said the goal of the page is to help ease the financial burden on his wife Rachel as well as to support his child “as she grows up and navigates life without her Father.”

The victim’s older brother Jacob Robinson told FOX6 News that an upcoming happy occasion, their sister’s wedding, will now be replaced by a funeral.

“My heart wrenches for my sister. I can’t explain how that feels to have to cancel your wedding because your brother’s funeral is going to replace the wedding,” he said.

He described Robinson as “an incredible young man”

“There’s no words,” the victim’s brother said. “My brother was taken unexpectedly from us, and I just want justice and his name to be known.”

The GoFundMe page describes Robinson as a “beautiful soul” and a “true family man” with a passion for hockey. He played in the OHL and for the Hannover Scorpions in Germany, the page said.

“He was a true family man, always making sure to spend every spare second that he could with them,” his cousins wrote on the page. “Even when he couldn’t be around physically, he would make sure he was there through FaceTime to be part of every event and gathering. Nothing filled a room like his smile and quick wit.”
