Canada has said it plans to bring back containers filled with trash that have been sitting for years in a port in the Philippines, after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to sail them back himself.

Environment Canada announced on May 22 that the government has hired shipping company Bollore Logistics Canada to bring back by the end of June 69 containers filled with trash from Manila ports where they have been rotting for the past five years. The announcement also said Canada would cover the costs associated with the return of the waste.
