The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Cadbury has issued a recall of its Dairy Milk Oreo bars due to them having undeclared pistachio nuts. Photo provided by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency
Cadbury’s parent company Mondelez Canada has issued a recall of some of its Dairy Milk Oreo bars, saying that they may contain pistachios not listed on the packaging.
Consumers have reported reactions in association with consuming the bars, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). It said those who are allergic or sensitive to pistachios should not eat the recalled products, “as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.”
The CFIA did not specify how many reactions have been reported or the severity of them, but said that the recall is classified as a Class-1 recall, representing the highest category of risk.
CFIA noted that the recall only applies to specific 38 gram Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo Candy bars and 12-packs of them. It advises that individuals check the UPC and production codes to determine if a candy bar has been recalled and said that anybody with a recalled bar should return it to the store they purchased it at or throw it away.
The CFIA added that it is conducting a food safety investigation as a result of the recall and said further recalls could occur as a result.
“The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace,” reads the agency’s July 24 notice.
A number of similar recalls due to improper labeling have occurred in recent months.
Various flavours and sizes of Gummy Gainz protein candy were recalled across Canada earlier this month due to containing milk that hadn’t been properly listed on the label. The recall took place after a customer complaint and an individual reported an allergic reaction.
In April, plant-based chocolates by Galerie au Chocolat were also recalled for the same reason of milk not being properly listed. Retailers were told by the CFIA to stop selling or serving the treats.
