British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is promising increased public spending, reduced taxes and regulation, and fixing the housing market as he paints his vision for a future Britain “transformed for the better.”
Speaking to virtual audiences at the Conservative Party conference, Johnson’s speech on Oct. 6 aimed to boost the morale of the Conservative Party and regain favor from the public. The comments follow a poll that showed Labour leader Keir Starmer overtaking Johnson as the person who would make a better prime minister amid the pandemic, and as Johnson’s standing among Conservative Party members has plunged, according to research published Oct. 5 by former Conservative Deputy Chairman Michael Ashcroft.
