Boeing has recruited over 200 new staff as part of its ongoing investment in Victoria, bringing its workforce in the state to almost 1,000.

Minister for Manufacturing Sovereignty Ben Carroll welcomed the news.

“Boeing’s continued investment in Victoria highlights our status as Australia’s advanced manufacturing capital, with more high-skilled jobs being created in our state,” he said.

The minister’s statement was echoed by Boeing Australia Managing Director Mick Sorrenson, who said Victoria has a deep connection with Boeing.

“Boeing’s enduring partnership with Australia is deeply connected to Victoria, having continuously manufactured aircraft components at our Fishermans Bend site since the 1930s.”

Based at Melbourne’s Fishermans Bend, which is a main business hub for advanced manufacturing, the company has built aircraft since 1927. It is one of Boeing’s largest hubs outside the United States.

Nina Taylor, a state MP for the Albert Park area, also expressed her appreciation for Boeing’s business centre.

“Fishermans Bend is a key hub for advanced manufacturing in Victoria, and we have some of the world’s most innovative companies right here.”

While manufacturing has traditionally been male-dominated, the company is now encouraging more women into the aviation sector via its Female Apprenticeship Program.

All of Boeing’s commercial airplane components produced in Victoria are exported to the company’s final assembly lines in the United States: Seattle, Washington, Charleston, or South Carolina.

Boeing Aerostructures Australia was also recently awarded the Manufacturer of the Year—Large Business at the 2023 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards.

Other defence and aerospace manufacturers with a major presence in Victoria include Hanwha, BAE Systems, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, and Thales.
