A South Australian (SA) police officer is under investigation after allegedly making posts celebrating the shooting murder of U.S. conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was assassinated in Utah while on stage at an event for his The American Comeback Tour on Sept. 10.

A 22-year-old alleged suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested and is expected to be charged with murder over Kirk’s death.

It has been widely reported the SA officer allegedly wrote one post which read: “Amongst all Gaza, Ukraine, Trump news, sometimes something wonderful happens.”

In one comment, the officer supposedly remarked about the shooter that, “Dude has a steady hand,” alongside a fist emoji.

The officer also posted a previous quote from Kirk who at one time stated that some gun deaths every year were “worth it” in order to support the Second Amendment.

In a statement provided to The Epoch Times, a South Australian police spokesperson said they were aware of the posts.

“They are now subject to an investigation under the Police Complaints Disciplinary Act,” he said.

The officer’s alleged comments are not the first controversy in Australia in the aftermath of Kirk’s murder.

Steggall Walks Back Support for Post

On Sept. 14, teal independent MP Zali Steggall denied she condoned violence after her social media account was seen “liking” a post by Cheek Media co-founder Hannah Ferguson.

The post read: “Am I happy that someone shot him in the neck in broad daylight? No, but also, is violence sometimes necessary? Yes.”

It continued: “I don’t wish to extend my empathy to Charlie Kirk. I seek to redirect it to those on the margins.”

Steggall unliked the post after it gained publicity, she later issued a statement calling the assassination “horrific.”

The Warringah MP said liking a post was not reflective of an endorsement.

“Whilst I respect Hannah from Cheek Media for trying to have a discussion about the conflicting realities occurring in the U.S., I originally liked her post because it is important to understand and discuss the dangerous polarisation occurring online due to the algorithms and click bait media,” Steggall wrote.

“However, I do not agree with or endorse everything Hannah has written. Whilst liking does not equal endorsement, for the avoidance of doubt, I have chosen to unlike the post.”

Comments ‘Beyond Disturbing’

Melbourne mental health advocate Lizzy Page also sparked a response after posting a video saying it was not unethical to laugh at his death.

In her video, Page referred to Kirk as a “human water fountain,” before going on to liken Kirk to a pawn for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In response, conservative Senator Ralph Babet said, “This is beyond disturbing,” on X.
