Canadians, including the prime minister and military veterans, gathered at ceremonies in Normandy and Ottawa on June 6 to mark the 80th anniversary of one of the most important days in World War II.

Thirteen Canadian veterans who survived the battle on that very beach sat in the front row dressed in their military uniforms.
