With Alberta wildfires expected to last several months in some cases, the province has announced it will provide emergency financial assistance to residents forced to evacuate their homes due to wildfires.

“The government will begin providing one-time emergency financial assistance to residents who have been forced to evacuate due to these wildfires. Every adult who has been evacuated and displaced for seven consecutive days will receive $1,250, along with an additional $500 for each dependent child under age 18,” Premier Danielle Smith said at a May 8 news conference.
