Two automakers are recalling more than 30,000 vehicles due to potential airbag malfunctions that could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Fiat Chrysler Recall
Fiat Chrysler issued an update last week regarding its recall of 21,194 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs after identifying a software problem that may cause the door airbag pressure sensors to fail. The recall affects 2022 to 2025 Grand Cherokee SUVs as well as 2023 to 2025 Grand Cherokee L models. The advisory updated the initial May 21 recall.
The automaker announced that it will notify vehicle owners in writing to bring their cars to a dealership for an update of the occupant restraint controller software.
Honda Recall
Honda expanded a prior airbag recall in response to similar airbag safety issues. The most recent recall impacts 12,371 vehicles and includes cars, light trucks, vans, minivans, and SUVs, according to the advisory published on Transport Canada’s website. The initial recall was issued by Honda on May 21 and was later updated on June 5.
“On certain vehicles, the weight sensor for the front passenger seat may not have been manufactured properly,” the recall says. “As a result, the passenger-front airbag and knee airbag could deploy in a crash that doesn’t require them to.”
