Payroll tax—a tax paid by employers on the total wages they pay—has long been a point of contention for the business community.

Most recently, it returned to the spotlight after Queensland’s Liberal National Party (LNP) successfully carried a motion at its State Council meeting on the Gold Coast calling for the tax to be phased out.
