A 19-year-old Canadian man has been arrested for posting threats on Twitter directed at Parliament Hill, the federal Department of Defense, and the Chinese and American embassies in Ottawa, police say.

In a Jan. 3 news release, RCMP identified the man as Daniel Houde from Ottawa, saying Houde was “taken into custody and released on conditions.”

Police say they were made aware of “death and terrorism-related threats issued by a Twitter user” on Nov. 8, 2022.

“The threats were not directed at specific unit [sic] other than the department of defence in Ottawa and Pentagon which were made in the same Twitter post,” an RCMP spokesperson said in an email to The Epoch Times.

“The threatening tweet[s] are no longer available on the platform.”

Houde has been charged with four counts each of a “Terrorist Hoax,” knowingly uttering threats “to cause death or bodily harm to a person,” and also threats to “burn, destroy and damage real property.” He is scheduled to appear at the Ottawa Provincial Court on Jan. 18.

“All threats to the public are taken seriously, including tweets on social media,” said RCMP Sgt. Pascal Herbert in the release.
