Woman swallows $5,000 diamond: A Florida woman accidentally swallowed a diamond worth $5,000 that was supposed to be used as a necklace, according to reports.

The Tampa Women’s Club placed a diamond in 400 flutes of champagne at a charity event over the weekend, reported News Net 5 television.

TampaBay.com reported that the rest of the glasses received cubic zirconias. The lucky person to find the real diamond gets to keep it.

An 80-year-old woman named Miriam, who declined to disclose her last name, was laughing when she drank the champagne glass with the gem stone.

“We were laughing and I wasn’t paying attention and I took a swallow,” said Miriam.

Andrew Meyer, a partner at Continental Wholesale Diamond, told the station that when the diamond was not found, they went table to table, trying to find the gem.

“There were 300 people there, so we had a lot of CZ’s to look through to find the real diamond,” Meyer told ABC News. “After 40 years of doing this, I should be able to tell the difference between a diamond or a CZ, but then I started doubting myself. Could I have missed it? I mean, everything goes through your head.”

Miriam said that she has decided the keep the diamond with her family.

“All’s well that ends well,” she told TampaBay.com
