Woman Steals Ambulance and Leads Police Chase: ‘I thought that’s what they wanted’

An Oklahoma woman was arrested for stealing an ambulance less than a day after she was released from jail.

Dasha West, 36, got behind the wheel of the vehicle after paramedics left it unattended to get a patient to the hospital. She then took the ambulance on a joyride.

She was spotted weaving in and out of traffic with the lights on as she was chased by police in Oklahoma City, KTNV reported.

When she was finally pulled over, West police that she didn’t think that she did anything wrong.

When an officer asked West if she knew what she had done, she replied: “I thought that was what they wanted me to do.”

West then appeared to fall asleep as the cop drove her back to jail.

West’s mother told KOCO-TV that her daughter has mental problems and she believed she went to the hospital for help when she saw the empty ambulance.
