Woman Speeds Through School Zones at 70 mph Fleeing Police

A Georgia woman is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase where she hit 70 mph through two different school zones.

Deputies from Coweta County, responded to call from a clerk at the Delta Community Credit Union on GA-34 in the city of Newnan, 40 miles southeast of Atlanta.

The clerk reported that a woman was trying to cash a fraudulent check.

When officers arrived, the woman jumped into a black Toyota Camry and fled the parking lot, evading one officer who tried to block her from leaving.

Becker, 35, of Jasper, Georgia, continued to flee, hitting speeds as high as 90 mph at some points in the chase. She blasted through not one but two school zones at speeds around 70 mph.

Becker blew through the two school zones—Arnall Middle School and White Oak Elementary School—at around 3:30 p.m.

Becker apparently had trouble controlling her vehicle at the speeds she was hitting; at one point she veered off the road and sideswiped some trees, NBC News reported.

Police officers tried to get near enough to her car to force her off the road, but heavy traffic prevented them from performing a Pursuit Intervention Technique (often called a PIT maneuver) safely.

Deputies didn’t give up, though, and after several high-speed miles one of the deputies managed to pull up next to Baxter’s car and push it off the roadway.

According to LiveLeak, Becker had several bags of cocaine in her possession when she was captured. She tried to swallow some of them while at the sheriff’s office for interrogation. NBC News reported that she was also in possession of some quantity of marijuana.

Becker was first taken to a local hospital for a checkup, and was then taken to Coweta County Jail where she is being held without bond, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Becker faces charges of identity fraud, forgery, narcotics possession, felony fleeing, speeding in a school zone, reckless conduct, going inside a guard line with drugs, suspended license, reckless driving, and failure to maintain her lane.
