Woman Rewarded for Returning Wedding Ring She Found Outside Walmart

When Esther Daniel picked up a pair of diamond-studded rings in a Walmart parking lot, she didn’t think about keeping them. Instead, she thought of ways to find their owner and return them.

Esther Daniel found a pair of rings in the parking lot of the Walmart in Raleigh, North Carolina, on March 13.

She could see right away that they were not costume jewelry, but expensive pieces of jewelry studded with diamonds.

She knew someone had lost them and badly wanted them back. So she made that her mission.

Daniel used social media to search for the rings’ owner, and when that didn’t work, she called the local ABC affiliate. Daniel explained that she had been searching for the rings’ owner for two weeks and needed help.

Daniel told ABC11 that her mother had raised her to be honest and to do the right thing, and that was what mattered to her.

“When I was a little girl my mama taught me on honesty and just this week we were talking with my son about integrity,” Daniel said. “That integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. That’s the only reason why I persistently did the right thing and I’m hoping that it gets to the right person.”

Doing Good Is Its Own Reward

ABC11 reporter Stephanie Lopez listened to Daniel’s story agreed to help Daniel return the rings’ owner.

Lopez aired a segment on the missing rings and happily, the owner of the lost rings saw it.

Local elementary school teacher Shnita Horton had been distraught when realized she had lost her engagement and wedding ring.

“When she lost it, it was like her world fell apart. She was missing something, more than the ring. It was like a piece of her was missing,” her husband, Robert Horton, told ABC11.

Horton came back to the Walmart where she had lost her rings to meet Daniel, and to show here the third ring, which completed the set, proving that Horton was the rightful owner.

Horton was overjoyed—and so was Daniel.

“I’m glad I get to do this,” Daniel told Horton. “I am so happy.”

Horton was speechless with relief and joy. “I have no words,” she said to Daniel. “Thank you so much.”

A More Tangible Reward

After seeing the whole tale unfold on TV, the management at Walmart wanted to make sure that Daniel was rewarded for her righteousness.

Assistant Manager Salif Saidy felt like he had been part of the first act of the three-week drama.

Daniel, upon finding the rings, had immediately come to Saidy, and gave him her number, asking him to pass it on to anyone who reported losing the rings.

Saidy got to be part of the final act as well.

Walmart called ABC11 and asked the station to arrange a meeting with Daniel at the store.

When Daniel arrived at the Walmart store, Saidy presented the young lady with a $500 gift card, a token of Walmart’s appreciation for the good deeds Daniela had done.

“We just wanted to thank you for your honesty and for the good deed and on behalf of Walmart I would like to present to a $500 gift card,” Saidy said.

After receiving the card, Daniel told ABC11, “I was moved and it was humbling because I was just doing what needed to be done, and what I would like someone to do for me.”

Saidy said he got a little choked up when he handed over Daniel’s reward.

“I was actually emotional too, when I first heard this story, that she was able to get the ring back to the right person,” Saidy said.

“Never stop fighting for the right thing,” Daniel told ABC11 later. “Always keep on fighting, and keep on doing the right thing, and don’t quit.”
