When you find a piece of paper under your windshield wipers, it’s usually a ticket. But not this time.

A woman who found her paid residential parking spot taken by a stranger decided to leave a note under the wipers, conveying her extreme displeasure at the situation.

She said she could have gotten the vehicle towed but chose to park somewhere else instead—a decision that left her with a parking ticket she couldn’t afford.

“Hey Stranger,” she wrote.

“Because you were parked in my spot last night (and still are??), I got a ticket for street parking overnight w/out a permit. I’m broke. These are privately owned spots, and I could have you ticketed and towed. I won’t, but please don’t park in my spot again.”

The response was completely unexpected.

The woman was left an envelope with $100 in it and an apologetic note.

“First I would like to apologize for parking in your spot,” the stranger wrote.

“It was irresponsible on my part and I would like to give this to you to pay for the ticket and whatever else you need. ... [It] can be tough around this time of year. Merry Christmas.”
