LAKE BALBOA, Calif.—Authorities Feb. 9 identified a motorist who died when her car collided with a Corvette that police say was driven at high speed by a man who went through a red light at an intersection in Lake Balboa.

The crash was reported about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at Balboa and Victory boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Katty Figueroa, 45, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the LAPD.

The other motorist, a man, died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office and the police department. Information on his identity was not available for release by authorities as of late Thursday morning.

According to police, the fatally injured woman was driving a Honda Accord that was eastbound on Victory Boulevard. A Chevrolet Corvette that was northbound on Balboa Boulevard went through a red light and collided with the Honda, police said.

The force of the collision left the Honda crushed and on its roof. The Corvette was sheared in half as it careened into a strip mall, partially toppling a sign on the corner before coming to rest in the parking lot.

KCAL9 reported from the scene that police believe the Corvette may have been traveling at speeds approaching 100 mph when the crash occurred.
