An Ohio grandmother who was critically wounded in a stabbing attack nearly two months ago has died, according to Columbus Police.

Candy Arthurs, 45, died on Aug. 3 after she was stabbed in the chest by Kristopher Amos on June 23.

Amos, a registered sex offender, lured two of Arthurs’s grandchildren and several others into an alley under the pretense that he needed assistance in finding his lost drone.

When Arthurs confronted the 29-year-old, he plunged a large knife into her chest. Arthurs’s 7-year-old grandson Jeremy Mullins was stabbed in the shoulder. Her granddaughter Kourtnee Mullins, 8, was unharmed.

The young victim was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and made a full recovery. Arthurs was rushed to Mount Carmel West Hospital, where she remained until she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

Amos was initially charged with two counts of felonious assault and is now charged with one count of murder. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Arthurs’s daughter, Amanda Gibson expressed gratitude for the sacrifice her mother made by saving her children’s lives.

“She always said she would die for them and that’s exactly what she did,” Gibson told WBNS. “She’s definitely a hero. It’s hard because she lost her life but she saved both of my kids’ lives that night.”

Amos, a Tier-one sex offender, was convicted in 2010 of enticing children in a YMCA shower. WBNS reported that Amos’s status was unknown to neighbors despite living among them for years. Communities are not notified when a low-level offender moves into the neighborhood.

Gibson revealed that her son has physically recovered but will need to undergo therapy sessions to help him overcome the mental anguish of witnessing the stabbing of his grandmother.

“He’s very traumatized,” she said. “We’re trying to get him in counseling now because he won’t come out at night. If I come walking through the house at night he'll come and grab and be right on my side.”

As for Amos, Gibson hopes he “rots in jail.”
