Debbie Davis was commuting on Highway 71 in Kansas City when she saw an officer sitting on the side of the road that caught her attention.

Drivers noticed the police motorcycle sitting on the side of the highway. When she looked to her left, she saw an officer in the grass with two dogs.

According to Fox4, the officer, who was not identified, is now being hailed a hero for saving the dogs. They were separated from their owners.

“As I pull up, it’s a motorcycle cop sitting in the cold grass with two stray -- or what appears to be stray dogs, just sitting there petting them,” Davis said.

The dogs had apparently escaped their home in Kansas City, and the officer waited with them until Humane Social workers could arrive on the scene, according to the Fox affiliate report.

“It’s over and above for anyone,” Davis said. “It’s cold. Most people wouldn’t look twice at some dogs running around.”

Thousands shared Davis’ photo after she uploaded it on social media. “Saw these two this morning on the off ramp to 75th street northbound 71highway. Both were laying with the Kc cop until someone could get out there to pick them up. Husky had red collar. Couldn’t see collar on fuzzy black dog. Hopefully someone recognizes them!” Debbie wrote.

The owners of the dogs were identified as Austin and Ashley Mozingo, who went to a local shelter when the dogs escaped.

“It was heartbreaking when you see him in a cage, but then, it’s relief, when you know you can take him home with you,” Ashley said.

Ashley described the dogs with the officer as “adorable.”

“He’s just chillin' with them,” she said.

“I think that’s an awesome story,” Austin told Fox4. “It’s good to know there are still police officers out there who still enjoy helping out the community, especially in helping out such sweet dogs.”

Deputy, Homeless Man Photo Goes Viral

A man was sitting in traffic in Tacoma, Washington, and noticed a sheriff’s deputy car. When he glanced over to his right, he saw a deputy sitting near a tree in the bushes.

The man, Darren Ballard, said he had to do a double-take.

“I just couldn’t believe my eyes,” Ballard told CBS News.
“Just saw this cop having a sandwich with a homeless guy in the cut wanting no attention just doing a good deed….there are good police officers out there people this made my day please share!!!!!” he wrote.
In a statement to local news outlet KING5 News, Ballard said that he looked “over and there’s an officer in uniform, sitting on the grass, sitting with a homeless guy sharing a sandwich and I was just blown away.”

Ballard then shot the photo, which was captured near State Route 512. The photo was shared thousands of times.

“To sit there and get personal with him on a level, he’s just being friendly. It’s awesome,” he said.

The homeless man was later identified as James Haynes, who spoke to KING5.

“Sometimes we talk for hours, sometimes we talk for 10 minutes,” Haynes explained, adding that he and the officer have known each other for years. KING5 identified the officer as Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Huffman.

“He takes time out of his day to talk and if he gets a call, he’ll run and take it,” Haynes said.
He added that while he appreciates the food, he enjoys the company.
“He smiles all the time and makes me laugh,” said Haynes. “It’s very depressing out here.”

Huffman declined to comment on the photo, and a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said he doesn’t want any attention to the good deed.
