A 46-year-old Ohio woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting her husband when he didn’t buy her a Valentine’s Day gift.

Kimberly Hammond of Washington County hit and scratched her husband during a verbal altercation, police told WTAP-TV.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home near Parkersburg at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, finding a man with a series of injuries. The man told deputies that his wife had been drinking.

After scratching his face, she grabbed a mini baseball bat and hit him in the back of the head, knocking him out. She continued to attack her husband after he regained consciousness, deputies said. The Marietta Times said she specifically “kicked him in the ribs several times.”

Hammond told police that she was mad her husband didn’t purchase her a gift on Valentine’s Day, which was Sunday.

But she admitted to drinking, blowing a .221 reading during a breathalyzer test at the Washington County Jail.

According to the Marietta Times, the husband’s claims were “substantiated by a relative who was present at the time.”

Hammond is still incarcerated at the Washington County Jail, and she is awaiting a court date.
