A North Carolina woman was arrested after allegedly being seen giving her 1-year-old child marijuana in a Facebook video that went viral.

The video shows a mother making her young girl inhale the drug by placing a joint to the baby’s mouth, according to the arrest warrant.

Police officers said that the 20-year-old, Brianna Ashanti Lofton, was charged with two counts of felony child abuse, reported WLWT.

She was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and possession of marijuana.

Police thanked Raleigh residents and others for posting the video and comments on the department’s Facebook page.

“Thanks to your willingness to get involved, the child is now safe and the mother is in police custody,” a post from the Raleigh Police Department read.

“We appreciate the public’s help in this matter,” added Raleigh Police Department Lieutenant Jason Hodge in a statement. “We welcome and encourage any assistance the public is willing to give us at all times.”

The incident happened in either December or January, according to warrants, but came to the attention of the police after the video gained steam on the social media website and then went viral.

The video was seen over a million times, reported WTVD.

Lofton was transported to the Wake County Detention Center while the Wake County Child Protective Services has taken custody of the child.

A person who answered the door to her apartment declined to comment, according to WTVD.
